THE SOCIETY MEMBERS
In December 2005 the Society had 749 members distributed over 54
countries. There are two categories of membership; full and student.
There are currently three honorary members.
Full members are mostly professional biologists working in universities,
government agencies, research institutions and private companies.
Membership is open to anyone with an interest in the objectives
of the Society so it is not obligatory that members should work
full time as fish biologists.
Student members are mostly postgraduates working towards PhD or
MSc degrees.
About half of the members of the society live outside the British
Isles and there are members from all over the world. In 2005 the
membership distribution was:
British Isles 415;
Europe 150;
Africa 5;
Middle East 6;
Australasia 50;
North America 78;
South and Central America 15;
Far East 19;
Indian subcontinent 11.
Changes in society membership over the years.
