The FSBI offers the opportunity for its members to apply on a competitive basis for financial assistance in support of travel to conferences (other than the FSBI annual conference) and associated scientific exchange visits that are consistent with the Society’s objectives.
The Travel Grant programme has no age limits, but is primarily aimed at early-career scientists studying fish biology or fisheries science. Grants are available on a competitive basis to FSBI members for travel related to the Society's objectives.
Grant competitions are open to any member of the Society, regardless of their geographical location, but to be eligible you must be a paid up member for a minimum of 28 calendar days between a membership and a deadline for a grant application.
The primary purpose of Travel Grants is to enable researchers to present their work at international scientific meetings other than the FSBI annual conference. The grants are not intended to support meetings to discuss new proposals or fieldwork, although a combination of conference attendance and visits to other institutions is encouraged. Funds will not be provided to undertake research projects or to purchase equipment for which a separate scheme is available.
The current annual budget for Travel Grants is £20,000 and the maximum individual grant is £1000, which may be matched by funds from other sources if more substantial costs are involved. The grant is intended to cover travel, travel insurance, subsistence costs and conference fees as necessary. Reports of recent awards are published in the FSBI Newsletter.
The closing dates for applications are 01 March, 01 June, 01 September and 01 December.
