The FSBI offers the opportunity for its members to apply on a competitive basis for financial assistance in support of travel to conferences (other than the FSBI annual conference) and associated scientific exchange visits that are consistent with the Society’s objectives.
The Travel Grant Scheme has no age limits, but is primarily aimed at young people embarking on a career in fish biology or fisheries science involved in the study of fin-fish. These travel grants are available on a competitive basis to FSBI members for travel related to the Society's objectives.
The primary purpose of travel grants is to enable researchers to present their work at international scientific meetings other than the FSBI annual conference. The grants are not intended to support meetings to discuss new proposals or fieldwork, although a combination of conference attendance and visits to other institutions is encouraged. Applicants must be members of the FSBI. Funds will not be provided to undertake research projects or to purchase equipment for which a separate scheme is available.
The maximum grant is limited to £1000, which may be matched by funds from other sources if substantial costs are involved. The grant is intended to cover travel, insurance, subsistence costs and conference fees as necessary.
These grant competitions are open to any member of the Society, regardless of their geographical location, and the current annual budget for travel grants is £20,000. Examples of recent awards can be seen in the reports provided by previous recipients and published in the Newsletter.
