THE FISHERIES SOCIETY OF THE BRITISH ISLES ANNUAL CONFERENCE

Leicester University UK 13-17 July 2009

Accommodation & Meals

The University's residential site is in the leafy green suburb of Oadby. The 40 acre site complete with beautiful landscaped grounds and a stunning 16 acre botanic garden is situated just 2 miles from the city campus.

Accommodation
The en-suite bedrooms are in John Foster Hall which was built just 3 years ago. Located in attractive pavilions, each room has state-of-the-art facilities including shower and toilet, Internet access and telephone pay-as-you-go service, refreshment facilities, towel and toiletries selection. Each 4-5 roomed flat shares a spacious fully equipped kitchen area and social space.

We can also provide standard bedrooms which are located in Gilbert Murray Stamford Hall or GMS for short. These rooms all have washbasins and they have Internet and telephone pay-as-you-go service, refreshment facilities, towel and toiletries selection as in the en-suite bedrooms. Showers and toilets are close by.

Extra nights accommodation can be booked for Sunday 12th July or Friday 17th July but only in en-suite accommodation. We can also offer you dinner on these evenings.

Meals
Breakfast will be served in the Dining Room of the John Foster Hall for those staying in both en-suite and standard accommodation.

Refreshments and Lunches will be served in Bennett Building Lower Foyer. The Bennett Building is on the main University Campus which is situated on the edge of the city centre and all the presentations will take place in Lecture Theatre 2, which is off the Lower Foyer. The Posters and exhibitions stands will also be in the Lower Foyer.

On Monday evening the conference will start with a Welcome Reception in the John Foster Hall to which all delegates are invited. This session will be sponsored by Heartlands Wines.

On Tuesday evening there will be a Poster Session in the Lower Foyer, Bennett Building, directly after the day's presentations have finished. This Session will be sponsored by Wiley-Blackwell.

Dinner on Monday and Tuesday will be served in the John Foster Hall.

We are hoping to have good weather and have arranged a Barbecue at Stamford Hall. However, should it rain we are prepared and can have it inside (but it's not quite the same!).

Then finally, on Thursday the Conference Dinner will take place in The City Rooms which is a beautiful Georgian listed building located in the heart of Leicester City Centre. The historic venue, built in 1792, was intended to become Leicester's first hotel, used to house the visitors to the Leicester Races. Sadly, the hotel was never completed and the building was sold with the ground floor being used as a coffee house and the upper floors for banquets, wedding receptions and balls. Then in 1817 it passed into the hands of the County Justices for the Judges Lodgings. The centerpiece of The City Rooms is the magnificent ballroom which runs the whole width of the building on the first floor. This elegant room will set us back in time by 200 years and will make a splendid setting for the final evening of the conference.
