We have planned a Pub Quiz and Barbecue at the Y Mochyn Du pub in Sophia Gardens, which is just a 10 minute walk from the University through Bute Park, on Wednesday evening. This is the pub where all the Welsh speakers in Cardiff go for their pints so you are bound to hear the language of heaven spoken in general conversation! We will introduce you to all that is good about British pubs - good food - good beer - good fun! And then there is the Quiz - we intend to add in a couple of specialist rounds to keep you all on your toes! Finally, on Thursday night the symposium dinner which will take the form of a Welsh Banquet in the medieval surroundings of Cardiff Castle. The Undercroft Banqueting Hall is in one of the oldest parts of the Castle. The evening will commence with a drink of Welsh Mead, a traditional drink from medieval times. This will be followed by a four-course meal of the very best of Welsh food. Our hosts, in traditional Welsh costume, will serve the meal as well as keep us entertained with a selection of traditional and contemporary songs in both English and Welsh, all accompanied by a Welsh harpist. This is a wonderful opportunity to hear the Welsh language at its most poetic and in the most atmospheric of settings. An evening not to be missed, and there is a limit on numbers so do book early.
